Kentucky Derby Prep Races
The 2018 Kentucky Derby prep races runs year round as thoroughbred horses try to qualify for the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs with the Run for the Roses.
The prep race schedule starts off with the first major horse race being the Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs, followed by the Frontrunner Stakes at Santa Anita Park. These two prep races start the American Road to the Kentucky Derby schedule for horses, trainers and jockeys across the United States of America.
The Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby starts on November 29th with the Cattleya Sho race at Tokyo Racecourse. This is the first of only three select Kentucky Derby prep races scheduled in Japan for Japanese horses, trainers and jockeys to qualify for the run for the roses.
The European Road to the Kentucky Derby schedule starts on September 24th with the Beresford Stakes at Naas Racecourse. There will be a total of seven Thoroughbred horse races scheduled in Europe with the last race on the calendar being scheduled on March 30th in the Burradon Stakes at Newcastle Racecourse. With the several races scheduled, they will be held in three different countries starting in Ireland, then Great Britain and France.
